Samsung has officially added a new mirror less interchangeable lens camera to its highly successful NX Series, called the Samsung NX11, which replaces the NX10. The Samsung NX11 is compatible with the company’s 18-55mm i-Function lens, which lets photographers use a button on the left side of the lens to change advanced settings without having to look away from the target. It allows users to easily adjust settings, such as aperture, shutter speed, EV, ISO, and WB directly from the lens.

The Samsung NX11 camera is comes with an 18-55mm, a 20mm pancake, and a 20-50mm zoom silver color lens. It has 3-inch AMOLED display and features 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor, Face Detection (up to ten person), an electronic viewfinder (EVF) with resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and is capable to record 720p high-definition video (1280 x 720 pixels) at 30 frames per second.

The Samsung NX11 will be showcased at the CES 2011 event and will be available in February 2011 for $649 (with bundle zoom lens).

Olympus E-PL1 Micro Four-Thirds digital camera

We’ve already covered the new Olympus E-PL1 in a preview and a demo of the Live Guide automatic shooting, so this review is going to wrap things up into a neat little package.

In case you didn’t read our previous coverage, the E-PL1 is the newest camera in Olympus’ PEN series. Previously we’ve seen the E-P1 and then the E-P2, which added an accessory port but featured the same sensor. The E-P2 is a camera for photography lovers who are looking for something small/fun to shoot with, and it sells for a bit over $1000. The E-PL1 is the consumer PEN, it sells for $599 with a lens and the same 12.3MP internals as the other cameras. It shaves away some features, but manages to offer almost all of the Micro Four-Thirds goodness of the other two models.

So what makes the E-PL1 different from the E-P2 (we’ll leave E-P1 out because it’s no longer for sale):

The body. The E-P2 is black and has a brushed steel body… like the E-P1 it’s pretty incredible. The E-PL1 is nice enough, but it’s a lighter, much more consumer-y aluminum and plastic build.

The E-PL1 also does not have dials. The E-P2 has two of them.

The E-PL1 has six art filters instead of eight.

The E-PL1’s display is 2.7-inches instead of 3.0-inches.

E-PL1 has a mono microphone setup instead of stereo (PCM linear).

E-PL1 has a built-in flash.

Apple iPad 2 mock up appears online days before unveiling

Japanese blog iBlack Box has posted pictures and details of what it claims to be an accurate mock up of the forthcoming iPad 2. It states that the design and build shown in the photos has been recreated by a Chinese case manufacturer to the exact specifications and measurements of the new Apple device, based on what it was told by the Cupertino company.

Certain elements are definitely convincing: It sports a wide speaker grille on the back for enhanced audio - something we are expecting from the real deal - and rear and front facing cameras. Plus, there's a slot for an SD card, which is also something the genuine device is rumoured to have.

However, there's one nagging doubt that we've got on Pocket-lint that just won't go away... It's pig-ugly! If real, it's a marked move away from the sleek lines and rounded back of the original, and looks, instead, to have been trodden on by a rhino.

It may look more practical and industrial, but when have those two words appeared in an Apple presentation before?

Nonetheless, we'll soon find out whether it's a kosher leak or not... Wednesday can't come too soon.

Kodak unveils Z980 with 24x zoom

Kodak has announced the Z980 mega-zoom digital camera. This 12 MP camera sports a 26mm wide angle lens with 24x zoom, a detachable vertical grip with shutter release and is capable of HD recording. Kodak has also announced the addition of three new models to its EasyShare M series. The M380 features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 2.7" LCD and 5x optical zoom. The 10MP M340 and the 9MP M320 feature 2.7" LCDs and 3x optical zoom.

Kodak M1033, M763, M863 and M893 compacts

The range-topping M1033 (pictured in its "bronze" form, colors vary between markets) is a 10MP compact with 3X optical zoom. It has a 3 inch (7.6 cm), screen designed to have a wide viewing angle, so it can be used in "just about any environement.," according to the manufacturer. Impressively, the M1033 can record 720i HD format video (and compress it as MPEG-4) - that's 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps. It features a 35-105mm (in 35 equivalent terms) lens and up to ISO 3200 at full resolution. Stills can be displayed at 1080i resolution (1920 x 1080) using the Easyshare HDTV Dock available seperately. It is expected to be available in March 2008.

Further down the range come the M893 IS, an 8.1MP ultra-compact with a 34-102mm (35mm equivalent), f/2.9-5.2 optically stabilized lens. It can display its stills at 720p or 1080i but cannot shoot HD video. Sensitivity rises to ISO 1600. It is expected to arrive in April.

The M863 and M763 are 8.2 and 7.0MP, 3X optical zoom compacts. Both feature HD playback of stills and record at up to ISO 1600. They are expected to arrive in January and February 2008 respectively.

In common with the latest additions to its 'V' and 'Z' ranges, the company says the latest models are designed to fit with Kodak's "you press the button, we do the rest," ethos.

Known as a memory maker, Corsair releases its first headset, the HS1. It is a 7.1 surround USB model good for gaming, listening to stereo music and enjoying DVDs and Blu-Rays with Dolby sound. We're going to describe the product, analize its installation and see how it behaved during testing.

The HS1 is a big model, a circumaural headset with padded and cloth-wrapped ear cups. They rotate on their axis, making the gadget easy to carry around. The microphone can also be rotated to an upward position, an ideal setup for just listening to music and storing the headset in a drawer or backpack.

There is a 50 mm driver inside each ear cup, 10 mm bigger than the standard driver size found on headsets. It features a volume/mute mic control in the middle of the cloth-wrapped USB cord. It has a simple and objective design: two buttons to change de volume and one to mute the microphone. All three are backlit which is great to make it easier to find amidst a darkened room.

The earcup can be opened to relieve the heat. The Psyko comes with a detachable microphone to be plugged in the right earphone.

NEC Develops First Non-Contact Fingerprint Scanner

NEC has recently announces that it has developed the world’s first finger vein authentication device with a non-contact fingerprint scanner. The device, called the HS100-10, combines both finger vein and fingerprint authentication to make identification of individuals more accurate despite its non-contact feature. In using this device, individuals only need to wave a finger in front of the scanner for it to read both the finger vein as well as the fingerprint for identification.
Fingerprint authentication has long been used to identify individuals through their unique set of finger prints. But scanners can sometimes find it difficult to read them, depending on the condition of the finger being scanned. A dry or sweat-laden finger can easily affect effective identifying by a contact scanner. But with the development of the HS100-10, NEC aims to do away with such problems and issues and still get accurate fingerprint and finger vein readings and authentication. The new NEC HS100-10 Non-Contact Fingerprint Scanner is expected to ship around April, although pricing has not yet been provided.

Renesas Mobile and Nomovok are going to demonstrate MeeGo on Renesas processor

Along with the gaming smartphone Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson has introduced the day before the exhibition opening MWC 2011 two more mobile devices of the family Xperia - Neo and Pro.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo is built on a single-chip system with Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 CPU running at 1 GHz, and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
